Change of season, change of pace.
Foundation returns to the rooftop—our original open-air setup—where sunsets meet the city’s inner cadence. We’ve been waiting for the skies to clear so we can share those golden hours again.
Born in the US, house music emerged from the underground, carrying disco’s pulse and absorbing countless rhythms, shaping them into a sound that stood apart as its own.
In South Africa, it evolved into a slower form—leaning into more atmospheric-driven stylings, adopting elements of dub, soul, and local offerings like kwaito. Moving away from the anthem-driven sounds of the ’90s, it wasn’t about being edgy, but about connection: a rhythm that spoke of struggle and triumph, binding us together in its message.
For us, “underground” isn’t about being harder or darker, but about giving space to the less exposed sounds that hold the true essence of the culture. In recent years, the culture’s values, markers, and icons have been spoken about less—watering down the very culture that makes us feel like we belong.
At Foundation, we stay rooted: listening to house music’s home and honouring the culture that inspires it. Our stage welcomes artists who not only embody the spirit of now, but who have also guided the music through its many shifts and transitions.
Do you know house?
